Windows Phone By The Numbers

We hear a lot of thoughts about the future of Windows Phone and whether or not we should support the platform on TapFame. Below is the Windows Phone landscape by the numbers.

There are 126,530 Windows Phone Apps (source)

  • Windows phone reached 125,000 apps in 20 months, faster than Android (26 months), slower than iOS (18 months)
  • 30,000 developers have published apps in the marketplace
  • Windows Phone 8 is the newest OS
  • There are 7 smartphone devices currently available: HTC Windows Phone 8S, HTC Windows Phone 8X, Nokia Lumia 810, Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 822, Nokiaa Lumia 920, Samsung Ativ S (source)
  • The Microsoft surface that we are all hearing about also runs WIndows 8, but not the “phone” version

These numbers are nothing to be ignored. They’re also not mind blowing.

Hence, the debate on when how and if the developer community should get serious about Windows Phone Apps.
