Txtbus 1.0

Posted by Friedrick on October 5, 2006 in Txtbus

At the time Friedrick was Outsourcing software development for O.R. PEER to professionals all over the world via RentaCoder.com.  He posted a new project for setting up an automated system to tell him when the next would arrive at the stop closest to his house in Boulder, Colorado. It only took a few weeks to get the first prototype setup using an automated script to scrape the GPS arrival information from Nextbus.com.  The system was only setup for one stop and used email sent to Friedrick’s cell phone as a text message. Friedrick setup automated alerts to text him when the bus would be 5 minutes away from his stop, insuring he didn’t have to stand at the stop for too long in the rain or snow.
